Things That Make Doug Mad

BROWN FRIDAY SEES A SPIKE IN PLUMBING EMERGENCIES. IT’S NOT JUST THE TURKEY ITSELF, BUT WHAT COMES AFTER: GREASE-CLOGGED PIPES, OVERWORKED GARBAGE DISPOSALS, AND OVERWHELMED SEWER SYSTEMS. FOR GEORGIA, WHERE THANKSGIVING FESTIVITIES AND FAMILY GATHERINGS ARE BIG, PLUMBERS ARE OFTEN WORKING DOUBLE-TIME.
PLUMBERS REPORT THAT MANY RESIDENTS POUR TURKEY GREASE DOWN THE SINK, UNAWARE IT SOLIDIFIES IN PIPES AND CLOGS THEM UP.
GARBAGE DISPOSAL OVERLOAD: POTATO PEELS, CELERY, AND BONES? THEY DON’T BELONG IN YOUR DISPOSAL. YET, MANY IDIOTS GIVE IT A GO, LEADING TO COSTLY REPAIRS.

A TOURIST DRIVING IN THE EARLY MORNING DARK ON THE BIG ISLAND DROVE HIS RENTED JEEP OFF A CLIFF BUT WAS ABLE TO SWIM TO SHORE WHERE FIREFIGHTERS PULLED HIM UP INTO A HELICOPTER.
THE 27-YEAR-OLD WAS VISITING FROM THE CANADIAN PROVINCE OF BRITISH COLUMBIA.
FIREFIGHTERS, POLICE AND THE U.S. COAST GUARD RESPONDED TO A REPORT OF A SWIMMER IN DISTRESS IN THE OCEAN AT SOUTH POINT IN NA’ALEHU AT ABOUT 3:45AM ONE RECENT MORNING.
HE SWAM ABOUT 100 YARDS TO SHORE AT THE BOTTOM OF A 50 FOOT CLIFF.
THE ROAD THERE IS DANGEROUS FOR THOSE WHO AREN’T FAMILIAR WITH IT, A LOCAL MAN SAID.

THE 1948 BEAVER DROP WAS AN IDAHO DEPARTMENT OF FISH AND GAME PROGRAM TO RELOCATE BEAVERS FROM NORTHWESTERN IDAHO TO THE CHAMBERLAIN BASIN IN CENTRAL IDAHO. THE PROGRAM INVOLVED MOVING 76 BEAVERS BY AIRPLANE AND PARACHUTING THEM DOWN TO THE GROUND. THE PROGRAM WAS STARTED TO ADDRESS COMPLAINTS FROM AREA RESIDENTS ABOUT PROPERTY DAMAGE CAUSED BY BEAVERS. PARACHUTING THE BEAVERS PROVED TO BE MORE COST-EFFECTIVE AND IT ALSO DECREASED BEAVER MORTALITY RATES MORE THAN ALTERNATIVE METHODS OF RELOCATION.
